Ryan Seacrest Stalker Sentenced to Two Years in Prison

Chidi Benjamin Uzomah Jr. was sentenced to the maximum sentence of two years in a California state prison after pleading no contest to stalking Ryan Seacrest.
Apparently, Chidi Benjamin Uzomah, Jr. could never be quite close enough to Ryan Seacrest. Uzomah has been in jail since October of last year after he was arrested trying to reach Seacrest outside E! studios in Los Angeles. Authorities say that Uzomah was carrying a knife at the time. At the time of that arrest, Uzomah was already on probation for attacking a member of Seacrest's security team months earlier. He was also carrying a switchblade knife during that assault.

As non-celebrities, it's easy for most of us to dream about how great it must be to be super-famous and wealthy beyond our wildest dreams. And certainly the perks usually outweigh the problems, but this is one of those instances where you just have to wonder if it's really worth it.

After all, Ryan Seacrest is just Ryan Seacrest. He's the bubbly personality on American Idol and the heir apparent to Dick Clark. Essentially, he is completely harmless in his persona and it's unlikely that he's ever offended anyone outside the entertainment industry.

Yet here he is being the target of a stalker who seems intent on reaching him, with evidence that his intentions may to harm Seacrest. When it comes to stalkers, it's impossible to speculate as to exactly what motivates them, as it seems that most of them are mentally unstable. And while it's nice that Uzomah has been sentenced to two years in prison, does anyone think that he's going to forget about Seacrest during that time?

It's much more likely that he comes out of prison even more fanatically obsessed with Seacrest - and current laws don't really do much to protect celebrities in these instances.
