Hugh Jackman Stops in the Middle of Broadway Show Over Phone

Hugh Jackman, appearing in a Broadway play recently, stayed in character even as he told an audience member to turn off their ringing cell phone.
Hugh Jackman, best known for his portrayal of comic book hero "Wolverine" in the "X-Men" series of movies, is currently on Broadway doing a performance of "A Steady Rain," where a recent incident between the actor and an anonymous audience member will probably remind theatre-goers to turn off their cell phones prior to entering the seating area in the future. Jackman, who was performing in an advance performance last week, interacted with the audience - in character - when he heard a cell phone ringing.

Said Jackman, "You want to get that?" After some applause and laughter from the audience, Jackman continued, "Grab your phone, it doesn't matter. Come on, just turn it off...we can wait. Just get the phone. Don't be embarrassed. Just grab it." A video of the incident was posted to YouTube earlier this week, though it's not clear which audience member was the culprit in the "case of the ringing phone." After a few rings, the phone eventually stopped, much to the relief of its owner, no doubt.

The play itself, which stars the 40-year-old Jackman and British actor Daniel Craig, 41, is drawing early praise. A BBC review of the production notes that Jackman and Craig have "a natural rapport and shared the spotlight." Craig is best known for portraying James Bond and he and Jackman have added to a long list of movie actors who are working on Broadway recently, including Jude Law, Sienna Miller and Geoffrey Rush. "A Steady Rain," by Keith Huff, is a drama about two Chicago policemen. Both Craig and Jackman affect Chicago accents for the play.
