came to the VMAs with the biggest story of the night hidden under her red, flowing gown. As it turns out, she couldn't even get past the red carpet before revealing that she was pregnant and that she and Jay-Z are beyond ecstatic about the news. She is apparently getting close to three months pregnant, so there is no word at this point as to the sex of the baby or even when, exactly, she is due.
And while Beyonce and Jay-Z definitely had the big story of the night, there was actually a major awards show that occurred as well. And what would a major music awards show be without some antics from Lady Gaga and Britney Spears. This time around, Gaga appeared on stage as her male alter ego, Jo Calderone. Britney remained in character as, well, Britney. Eventually, to the surprise of no one, the two found themselves in an awkward onstage kiss, so obviously reminiscent of Britney and Madonna's kiss so many years ago. Christina Aguilera was there as well, but that's not what's remembered.
Given the forward-looking nature of MTV and its creative leaders, don't you think it's time that they took a different route with regard to the "Britney kissing someone onstage" routine. First of all, Britney Spears is no longer the hot little number who captivated fans of all ages with her string of hits laden with sexual innuendo. Nothing against Britney, but it's probably time to pass the torch on the whole act.
Katy Perry's probably the closest thing to Britney in today's world, so let's have Katy take a shot at teasing the crowd for a few years.
