Agriculture Development in Pakistan

In our country agricultural and industrial development are equally necessary. Agriculture is the basis of economy. By cultivating properly our lands can give us food grains like wheat, rice and barley much more above our needs.
First of all our requirements of food are increasing vigorously with a rise in our population every year. We need more food and with a rise in living standards the people buy greater quantities of food. Secondly most of our people above 70 percent, earn their living from agriculture and most of our villagers are farmers or workers on the farms. Thirdly a good deal of our industry and commerce depend upon agriculture. The cotton factories use raw cotton and the sugar factories are consuming the sugarcane grown on farms. Then there are hundreds of biscuit factories using flour. The factories producing vegetable ghee use different kinds of oil-seeds. Thus agriculture is the basis of our industry. Fourthly commerce and business in the country depends on agriculture. Traders are engaged in bringing agricultural goods from farms and villages to markets and commercial centers. The trade in raw materials selling to the factories is expanding. Fifthly, agriculture is the basis of our foreign trade. About 70 percent of goods exported to other countries are agricultural raw materials.

Our farmers should use better seeds, fertilizers and medicines to kill insects. They should mechanize farming by using tractors, harvesters, tube-well engines, and power pumps and so on the large scale. We should try to make our farmers independent owners of big pieces of land which will make them more efficiently. We should develop well constructed roads between villages and cities and better arrangements to bring agricultural produce from villages to markets on truck and trains quickly.
We should learn effective techniques of agriculture from the advanced countries in order to modernize it.
